Stephen Powell is Managing Director and Owner of SinoPowell Capital LLC, an investment and advisory firm based in Washington DC that specializes in mining, energy, finance, real estate, logistics and aviation transactions.

Mr. Powell founded SinoPowell in 1999 to work primarily with China. He now leads a team of banking professionals, technical experts, country managers and advisors working on projects worldwide.

SinoPowell conceptualizes and structures projects, produces business plans with financial modeling and market research, and assembles management teams and advisors for transactions. The company also arranges financing, technical analysis, security, legal assistance, due diligence and logistics for projects.

SinoPowell acts as an advisor, an intermediary and/or a principal. It has worked on sales and acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, joint ventures, leases, off-take agreements, bids and procurements, debt and equity financing, private placements, letters of credit and various types of insurance and guarantees.

The company has worked in over 30 countries on six continents and specializes in transactions involving the US, Asia, Africa, and the MENA (Middle East/North Africa) and GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Regions.

Clients and partners include state owned enterprises, government agencies, financial institutions, sovereign wealth funds, private sector entities, and individuals.

Projects often involve US and overseas government financing sources such as OPIC, ExIm Bank, the IFC and World Bank, EDC (Canada) and CIC (China), private and other public sector debt, as well as equity investments from around the world.

Previously, Mr. Powell was a media executive and both a commercial and an investment banker for 20 years in New York and Dallas. During his career, he has worked on transactions with a combined value in excess of US$30 Billion.

Mr. Powell has a BA in Economics (honors) from Brown University, an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
