CIC Silk Road Forum 2017 in Beijing
Attended the "Belt & Road Cross-Border Investment CEO Summit" on June 6th in Beijing at the invitation of event sponsor China Investment Corporation (CIC), the country's sovereign wealth fund. This Forum convened leaders of Chinese and multinational corporations, government officials and policy makers, the world's top sector experts and prominent business investors.
Several hundred participants attended this all-day event at the magnificent Diaoyutai State Guesthouse as we presented our Silk Road Logistics project. This ambitious undertaking provides scheduling services, infrastructure investment and equipment leasing to companies and governments moving goods between China and Europe.
The Summit was introduced by TU Guangshao, the Vice Chairman and President of CIC. A keynote address was made by XU Zongxtnag (pictured above), the Executive Vice President of China Railroad Corporation (CRCC), one of the key players in Silk Road Logistics and the world's largest manufacturer of rail locomotives.
Steve Powell, Managing Director of Silk Road Logistics, is pictured at left with QI Bin, the Executive Vice President of CIC who was previously with the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
Powell and his SinoPowell Capital colleagues met with various funding sources in the days after the Summit, including the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Emerging Markets Power Fund (EMPF), pictured below with Powell in the middle.
Went to Lake Baikal in Russia's remote Siberia region after my trip to China. While other lakes have a bigger surface area, this is the world's largest lake by volume since it is so deep. Connected back through Beijing on my way home to Washington....
